Are You Ready For The Storm

Apr 19, 2026    Dr. Lorraine Brown

This powerful message centers on the reality that God is actively working in our lives, even when circumstances seem overwhelming. Drawing from Matthew 8:23-27, we explore the story of Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee. The disciples, experienced fishermen, found themselves in a tempest so violent that their boat was being covered by waves. Yet Jesus was asleep, demonstrating both His humanity and His complete trust in the Father. The central question posed is profound: Are we ready for the storm? Not whether storms will come, but whether we are prepared when they arrive. The message reminds us that storms are inevitable in marriage, family life, our walk with God, and every area of existence. The enemy does not play fair, but God has the final say in every situation. We learn that our faith is being tried like gold in fire, as described in 1 Peter 1:6-7. The storms we face are not strange occurrences but part of our spiritual journey. When we feel like the disciples, crying out in fear, we must remember that Jesus can speak to our situation at any moment and bring calm. The key is not to focus on the scoreboard of our circumstances but to remember that God is our problem solver, burden bearer, lawyer, and doctor. We are called to speak to our storms in Jesus' name and command them to cease, knowing that no storm lasts forever.
